Record Breaking Results

Congratulations class of 2019!

The staff and Governors of St Michael’s Church of England High School take great pleasure in congratulating the 2019 Year 11 cohort for their brilliant GCSE results.

We are celebrating achieving a positive Progress 8 figure for the first time in our history, the school achieved a positive Progress 8 figure as a result of students surpassing their target grades and performing better than national expectations. 70% of our students achieved a grade 4 or above in English with almost half accomplishing a grade 5 or above and 64% achieved a grade 4 or above in maths.

Music, RE, Physics, History, Chemistry, Biology, Art, Science, Hospitality, Sport and Financial Capability all achieved above national figures, as significantly as +23.4%.

Many of our pupils achieved grade 9s: in total, 32 students across a range of 16 subject areas (15% of our students) were ranked in the top 2.5% of the country.

Individual performances were extraordinary: James Hall achieved four grade 9s in Biology, Physics, Geography and Citizenship; a grade 8 in Chemistry; three grade 7s in Maths, English Literature and Performing Arts; a grade 6 in French and a grade 5 in English Language.

Other successes include:

George Priest - six grade 8s (Biology, Chemistry, Eng Lang, Eng Lit, Drama, Physics), two grade 7s (Maths, Music), one distinction star (Sport) and one grade 6 (Citizenship).

Justin Gem - one grade 9 (Biology), four grade 8s (Chemistry, Geography, Maths, Physics), two grade 7s (Eng Lang, History), one grade 6 (Eng Lit) and one grade 5 (Music).

Victoria Andrews - one grade 9 (Art), one distinction star (Sport), one grade 8 (Chemistry) six grade 7s (Biology, Eng Lang, Eng Lit, Geography, Maths, Physics) and one 6 (Citizenship).

Wictoria Lason - one Distinction star (Hospitality), three grade 8s (Double Science, Polish, Geography), four grade 7s (Art, English Lang, Eng Lit, Maths), one A (Financial Capability) and one grade 6 (Business).

Beth Winup - one Distinction Star (Sport), two grade 8s (Double Science, English Lit), five grade 7s (English Lang, Geography, Maths, Music, Drama), and one 6 (Citizenship).

These are just a few of our top performers but we are proud of every single pupil’s GCSE results this year. Students and staff worked hard to achieve these fantastic outcomes and we are thrilled that they have been rewarded with such magnificent achievements.
