St Michael's
We believe that a three way partnership between the school, its students and their parents is vital to success

Student Welfare and Emotional Support

The school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding… High-quality pastoral care and support for pupils is evident throughout the school. The local authority and other agencies recognise this as a particular strength.”

Ofsted Report - 2017

At St Michael’s we are passionate about the importance of good mental health and the emotional well-being of all of our students.  For this reason, we have a large Pastoral Team who provide support and mentoring for students who, for whatever reason, struggle with the day to day stresses of school life along with more serious issues such as bereavement, family conflict, illness and friendship concerns.

We are able to support students in a way that is tailored to suit their individual needs. This may be in the form of one to one support, group interventions, online counselling and support from many other partnership agencies.

This year we are really pleased to have teamed up with Koothonline, a free, safe and anonymous online counselling service for young people.  Accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and with backing from the NHS, Kooth is provided by XenZone, a provider of online mental health services for children, young people and adults. Kooth is an online counselling and emotional well-being platform for children and young people, accessible through mobile, tablet and desktop and free at the point of use.

Students needing support can register anonymously with the service and will be able to speak to a trained Young Person’sxenzone.png Counsellor whenever needed. As well as counsellors to talk to, the site offers safe online community forums as well as lots of articles to read and the opportunity to write in a daily journal.
